Thinking About Thread

After reading Stacey’s post about one little word, I thought about what my word could be. I considered the linked list of words in her post and pondered a bit. I knew I was supposed to pick a word to live by for the year but I struggled with that. That felt so big to me.  I’m not sure if it because I had to move my office to the sewing room but as I was writing and thinking, the word thread came to mind. I love thread and if you enjoy creating with fabric, you know what I mean. Other than that, I had no idea why I picked that word.  I suppose I could have chosen the word connected but thread felt better, more real and I liked that thread was something I could hold in my hand if I wanted to. And so I dug through my thread drawer and my grandma's sewing box and picked some spools to put in a jar to remind me of my word.

  1. What a perfect word for someone who works with material, whether that material is writing fodder or fabric. Great photo and a good reminder of your OLW.

  2. Your jar of thread is a great visual reminder. I enjoyed your thinking process of how you chose your word. I am inspired to go back and find my own word for this year. Thanks for the great post.

  4. I like it! It's thread that holds things together. It's thread that brings things together. Great choice!

  5. Here is a quote I think of when I look at my thread collection
"We cannot live only for ourselves; a thousand fibers connect us with others; along those fibers, as sympathetic threads, our actions run as causes and they come back to us as effects." Herman Melville

  6. Yesterday when I saw your word in the comments on TWT, I thought it was such a unique word for OWL. It made me think about all the possibilities. I already chose my word for next year, but I love hearing others' words, expanding my own thoughts about options.

I also love that you created your jar of thread as a visual. I am excited to hear more about your word.

  7. I love the visual you created Diana. I was going to write a post about this very thing (i.e., having a visual to keep you focused on your slice of life). I will definitely have to link to what you did next week. :)

  9. I have to second every other comment Diana. I love the jar of spools you created as a reminder, & your word seems wonderfully expandable in many ways. I'm still messing about with choosing, and am really enjoying hearing everyone's process.

  11. Julianne's quote will be a great one to put on your first page - I love the idea of a visual. mmm - will enjoy thinking about that one for awhile. Your thinking about your word was similar to my process. Enjoy!

  12. I have been thinking of my OLW since last week. I have 4 on my list but like you said, "It's big." I feel the same way. I want this word to come to me. Lists are good for help. Patience did come to me but that is so hard for me and do I want to be challenged all year? It would be a good reminder. Love your jar. I want something fun like that!!! Thanks for fun inspiration!!

  15. I love the visual reminder. I love that you chose a metaphorical word too. This reminds me of one of my favorite songs: Details in the Fabric by Jason Mraz.
