A Different Kind of March Madness

A Weird Michigan March

Waves of
Pounding ice
Pebbles clacking
On windows and roof
Tornado sirens
They’ll be no sleep tonight

Wind and rain and thunder
Then a lull
More cracks and claps
A summer storm
In March

  1. I don't like thunderstorms and I don't live in an area where they are very dangerous. I can't imagine being where they can advance into tornadoes. Do you get used to it? They seem to be getting worse each year.
Your poem brought back the fear I feel when I see that first flash followed by the clap of thunder.

  2. I hope this was not really your night. Your description is absolutly compelling reading, but also very scary.

    1. Actually it was Anita. Very scary. Tornadoes were all around us last night. We got lucky.

    2. As I drove to work this morning, I listened to the stories from the midwest and thought of you and your night. I had not heard the news when I ran downstairs to blog this morning. So, when I heard the news on the radio, I not only connected - I thought of you and all the people impacted by such scary forces of nature. I am glad you "got lucky" - be safe.

  5. The combination of photograph and poem was so powerful. I loved the imagery in these lines:
    Waves of
    Pounding ice

  6. Great choice of words, and tempo. Having lived in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, for 10 years I always get nervous in thunderstorms now, even in Maine where they aren't that bad. And your post has reminded me of something I was going to jot down as an idea for a post and for the life of me, I couldn't remember it today. Thank you!
