This
post was inspired by Tara’s post from A Teaching Life about a lost earring.
I adored my Grandma Marion. I think about her every
day. She sewed all of her own clothes and every outfit in her closet had coordinating costume jewelry and shoes, mostly high heels. I remember reveling in her jewelry drawer.
Strings of beads with matching earrings and bracelets organized in baggies and
sorted by color in tiny boxes and plastic trays. I don’t recall her wearing a
lot of rings but she always seemed to have a bracelet on. When I was little, if I got too restless
at church or in a public place, she would hand me her bracelet to wear as I looked
at my books or paper dolls.
I love wearing this bracelet. It feels like a hug from my grandma. :) |
What a wonderful visual to cement that experience for us Diana,

I love how one slice creates another slice. Grandma Marion sound so stylish. Your title and caption are perfect!
ReplyDeleteShort and sweet and pretty. The last sentence creates an especially warm image.
ReplyDeleteWhen I see the bracelet, I can imagine all of the things little girls could do with it. Thank you for sharing a part of your grandmother with us.
ReplyDeleteI too have a few pieces of jewelry from my grandmother. I love them.

I love that line - the bracelet akin to a hug. My Aunt Pat sounds like your grandmother - she was just the cat 's meow, everything in it 's proper place and just so. But, more than the clothes, like your grandmother, there was always this aura of style and verve and fabulousness. And how very nice that my lost earring brought this to mind - I love the synergy of our writing community!
ReplyDeleteThis is just the way I feel about my grandmother's "costume" jewelry. Lovely slice!
ReplyDeleteThe description of the jewelry organized in baggies really helped me to see who your grandmother was. Colorful and organized.
ReplyDeleteA sweet memory. The photograph was a nice additional memory. Nice clean and simple.
I love your caption under the picture. I'm sure the bracelet is a wonderful way to keep your grandmother close to you.
ReplyDeleteYou post reminds me of my grandmother, who didn't sew all her clothes, but was a huge knitter. She is always knitting sweaters, mittens and scarves for all of her many grand children and great grand children. She's 100 years old now! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the caption "it feels like a hug." Definitely took me back to to looking at all my grandma's jewelry too.
