Moving On

Change feels more inevitable than good right now. Learning communities don't last forever. They are static. I know that. I understand that. I accept it. But I don't have to like it. The literacy coaching initiative in our district has officially come to an end. We had a good run. Twelve years. Twelve years of study, discovery, experimenting, documenting success, and collaboration. To my fellow cliff divers, Fran, Laura, Colleen, and Billi, you have changed the course of my life. Words just aren't enough.

  1. "We had a good run."

I wonder where you will run next?

  2. Diana,
Even though your community is ending being together physically, you will really never know how the learning will linger even though you aren't together. I will be thinking of you as I am experiencing a similar situation...I love the poem you shared.

  3. There seems to be sorrow in districts all over the nation. So much change. I'm sorry you will be leaving this job, Diana, & wish you the best. You have given me so many ideas over this past year of what a literacy coach does. Thank you.

  4. Diana,

I can only imagine how powerful this experience was for you and your colleagues (both within the team of literacy coaches and the colleagues you worked with). I am also thinking about Pamela's question of where your next run will be. I look forward to hearing about your next steps.

  5. I had to post another comment to say that I just noticed that your About Me tab links to your digital resume that you had been talking about. It is so amazing. I love the way that you set it up. I look forward to going back and reading it more thoroughly when I am not ready to rush out the door to work! The only part that I really got to read so far was the home page, and it was so powerful.

  6. Wow - twelve years. What a lucky district, what a sad loss. But this loss will be someone elses gain - I can't wait to hear about your next run.

  7. 12 years is a long time to work with people and I know how you put your heart and soul into your literacy coaching. I'm sure there are great opportunities ahead of you. And this group you have been with will always be with you. BTW, I checked out your About ME tab also. Very impressive. I love how it is set up!

  8. I love the way you referred to each other as cliff divers...that is indeed what education is like, adventures every day. There is a new one just ahead for you, even as you mourn the loss of this one, Diana.

  9. Sad that something so good has to end. Then again, you don't know what waits ahead. Saying good-bye is still sad.

  10. So sad that it's over! I feel your loss with you as I think of my 6th & 7th grade Spanish programs which now no longer exist either. 12 years is a wonderfully long time though -- think of all the learning you boosted along and all the lives (teachers' and students') you changed with your work! I hope your next position is just as exciting and meaningful!

  11. Wishing you luck Diana. It can be so unsettling but hopefully after your run you will land in another place that needs an inspiring coach such as yourself!

  12. I am sad for you and for all you are leaving behind. This makes me feel what Ruth described in her slice today as a floppy heart. I can feel the hole that your absence is going to leave behind. It is a palpable loss. Darn budgets get in the way of all the best things for kids.

    What your next adventure be?
