My digital resume
is coming along. As usual, I had to take a straightforward task and turn it
into a full-scale production. Examining my professional journey has been good
for me. Like any other piece of writing, I tend to create and write a lot then
go back and whittle away based on my audience and purpose. I chose to create a
resume blog. It is basically a home page with a single post and tabs across the
top. When readers select the Experience tab, they are lead to a page that links
them to an interactive timeline I created in timeglider. I’m pleased with the
results even though I’m not quite finished with it. When I zoomed out and looked at
my timeline as a whole, I could see how much I have changed and grown along the
way. I also included a tab titled, Personal Learning Network. When readers
select this tab that can view a mind map I created in bubbl us. It shows how
reading professional blogs and creating my own blog has transformed my
professional development. I feel like I’m about half-way finished. My deadline
is Sunday. No more excuses.
This is a draft of my mind map created in bubbl us. Pretty cool that you save your maps as jpg's and also print them out on a single page. |
This is a great visual and makes me think about what it would look like for all learners to "see" their process laid out like this! It's so much more concrete than reflection writing tends to be.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
The process of creating the map took some time. Bubbl us is very easy but it takes time to play and learn how it works. It forced me to think about how I got to be so interested in blogging and digital literacy. It started with reading teacher blogs. I spent quite a while lurking before I jumped in.
DeleteYour resume sound very intricate. It also sounds like you have done lots of planning to get it just right. Congratulations I know your intended audience will be impressed.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen anything like it! There is a lot on the mind map, but it is clear and visually appealing. I would love to see your completed digital resume. I am positive that it will be impressive and an inspiration to others.

I am intrigued in the process you have undertaken for your digital resume. What a brilliant idea, it has really strated me thinking - the aim of all good writers!:)
ReplyDeleteDiana,
ReplyDeleteHi, a couple of questions for you...do you pay for bubblus ? How do you sign up for an account? Also, do you pay for time glider? Do you use these web tools for personal use or do you also use them when teaching during p.d.?
Both are free but to use with a group of kids, you would have to sign up for one of the paid versions. The free versions of bubbl us and timeglider only allow you to make 3 maps or timelines. Beyond that, there is a fee. But kids could sign up for their own accounts if they have a gmail address. If you are interested in digging into lots of web tools, go to LiveBinders. There are tons of digital binders of curated teacher web resources that you can look at. LiveBinders is also free and very awesome. :)
DeleteAre you preparing to look for a new job or just writing history? I like the digital format. It looks like much more fun than a regular resume. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMy position was eliminated for the coming school year and I really have no idea where I will land. Hopefully on my feet. :)
DeleteThis is just great, Diana. I have been missing your posts, and seeing what you are up to, & clearly you've been very busy. I have used both of these apps & taught them to the group a while ago in that online tools class I taught. Your bubbl.us looks good. I certainly wish you well in your job search. You have so much to offer teachers that I hope that will still be a position open to you. They will spread your wealth of advice to many, many students.
ReplyDeleteSo impressive Diana. It seems like you are learning a lot through the process. I would love to see the final product if it is going to be open to the public. I am fascinated by the concept of a digital resume.
ReplyDeleteDiana, this is a terrific idea. My daughter is busy on the job search as well. She is just finishing her program and will graduate in May with a degree in English and Secondary Ed. We've been talking lot about ways to move beyond the resume and this is a fabulous idea. She's done a lot of work using Web 2.0 tools and this might be a way to showcase that work --- in my opinion, a little easier than a wiki (and a little more user friendly).
ReplyDeleteI am also going to check out "bubble us" as it looks like a great way to find the organization in writing. Often I have an idea, but not sure how I want to organize it. This looks like it would allow me to freely work on the idea and shape it after the process is complete.
Good luck!
Cathy
Neat! I like the idea of showing how you've grown through your online relationships -- it's such a powerful way to learn, reflect, and grow! Bubbl.us looks a lot like SpiderScribe, the tool I shared a while ago that I started using with my students! I know I've heard of bubbl.us somewhere also but haven't had time to play with it yet -- you've reminded me to check it out! I hope a school or district grabs you soon -- you are obviously a wonderful teacher and resource for other teachers! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is SO cool...laying your experience out this way allows you to see so many connections between all the things you've done. What a great visual tool!
ReplyDeleteImpressive and intriguing. Will have to try these websites. Bubblus looks wonderful! Too bad it isn't free for all the students for all the time.
ReplyDeletePraying you land on your feet in a place that is pleasing to you. And somewhere they will love you and your creative ideas.
