That binder is a great resource. Coming up with a resume is difficult -- it's a representation of you, as a slice of you, and so, the choices are meaningful and difficult.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Kevin
Ah, don't be too hard on yourself. Sometimes those "fun" things are just what our brain needs. With a little brain break, it sometimes works twice as hard and twice as fast! I haven't done anything with LiveBinders, except look at other peoples. Is it hard to get started? Also, how did you like Jersey Boys? My husband and I saw it a couple of summers ago and loved it--of course, those were the songs of our youth!
ReplyDeleteYou will get it done, but it takes time to simmer in the mind to know what to include. The binder has so many great resources. I'm glad you took time for yourself this weekend. I enjoyed Jersey Boys but felt depressed when it was over. What a life filled with turmoil!
ReplyDeleteYour post made me laugh or maybe cringe. I was supposed to write my resume this weekend too. Also do taxes. Instead I read 3.5 novels! Yikes! Oh well, there's always tomorrow, right???
ReplyDeleteI often think that people do just what they need at any one time, & it sounds like you needed a breather (see Deb's post). I found your weekend refreshing, & love that process of 'getting ready' which seems to be what you did with Live Binders. Now you can begin the resume, on another weekend! Best wishes Diana!
ReplyDeleteYou were in the pre-writing stage in your writing process. I go through this I'll-do-anything-but-write-phase each time I have to write report cards. You will get your resume written. You know it. Ice-cream will help.

Isn't it funny how much you can get done when you're avoiding doing something? I agree with the others though -- you really were getting yourself ready, and I'm sure you will be off to a great start!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that other people immersed themselves in studies of tasks like this until I read your post today. Your actions make complete sense to me as a process, not just an escape technique. And as always, you are ever the coach, sharing your resources with the rest of us! Can we write letters of recommendation?
ReplyDeleteI recently read that Raymond Chandler would set aside a specific time to write. He gave himself permission not to write, but he wouldn't let himself do anything else.
ReplyDeleteI guess many of us postpone what we know we will get to. Sometimes its hard to focus on ourselves. Remember you are a person of value.
I'm currently in grad school, again, and sometimes fear the assignments. I'm not a procrastinator by nature but with assignments I have no desire to work on - boy do they get pushed off. Love the resume resource and good luck to you in writing yours!
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny. I tend to put off the most important things on my list. If you are anything like me, it will get done in the nick of time and it will be great. Good luck and thank you for the great live binder resource.
ReplyDeleteI love the LiveBinder!
ReplyDeleteThis post brought a smile to my face! It can be so hard to write resumes. I still update the same resume that I wrote with the help of my college career center when applying for my first teaching jobs, so the main decisions were deciding when to delete out most of my college experiences and just have more of my professional teaching experiences. Even at that, it is still hard to capture what I want to. Good luck with yours, and I have been interested to hear about LiveBinder through your blog.
ReplyDeleteOh, this is so something I would do too!!! When the time is right and you are ready, the best resume will be written. I say, just publish your blog -- so much great thinking and teaching to share! And, by the way, ice cream does help!
