Can you tell that my husband is a
former Secret Service Agent? He still
gets a thrill out of planning logistics. |
It is springtime in Michigan. The mornings are still frosty and the forecast for Monday includes three inches of snow. Normally a spring snow prediction would depress me but not this year. Snow or not, I just want a break. Even though we are not scheduled for vacation until the week following Easter, my husband has our time together all planned out. I received a typed copy of the itinerary yesterday. He gave me Good Friday off. Wasn't that nice of him? Then on Saturday we will begin our snowy trek to the Upper Peninsula to visit Michigan Tech, a college my son is considering attending. Church on Easter Sunday, followed by brunch. After our first college visit on Monday, we head to Ferris State. Our ETA (estimated time of arrival) back home will be late Tuesday. Wednesday is reserved for medical appointments. Thursday we travel to Indiana to visit Rose-Hulman then to Ohio Northern University on Friday. At each college visit, my husband has appointments arranged with football and track coaches. Normally I would recoil at the thought of spending days trapped in an SUV navigating the unpredictable spring weather in this area of the county. Not this time. I'm looking forward to spending this time with my son. The week after next will be a rare opportunity to stoke his excitement for the future and to quell fears about the unknown.
WOW - your husband is a keeper! When you are doing the college shuffle, it's best to have a plan....that is for sure!
ReplyDeleteGosh, a whole week planned and you didn't have to do any of it! That's what I'm looking forward to for my break also--no planning on my end. Of course, I am planning on doing a little (lots) of couch time. I hope after visiting all those colleges (how fun!) you also get a little couch time.
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful that you can embrace and enjoy your husband's "talents" for itineraries. I loved the last line...."a rare opportunity to stoke his excitement for the future and to quell fears about the unknown." Sounds like it will be a beneficial week for all of you. You know what my husband has planned for my spring break (& my son's)? ......a hunting trip for himself!
ReplyDeleteImpressive. Not just a plan, but printed out agenda. I hope that the excitement rules over the fears.
ReplyDeleteRose Hulman, and Terre Haute, are our home territory. He'd get a great education, and have great job opportunities when he finished there. We did ONU with Laura. I loved it; she didn't. :). One of Karen Roecker's sons is a graduate and played football there. Have fun; it's a lot of butt time but fun son time.
ReplyDeleteMichigan Tech! Wow! That's one long drive. My daughter has a couple of friends who attended. They loved it, but no quick weekends home! Have fun with your son! Make some wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteOur son attended school in downtown Chicago. Our home town has about 12,000. I was so nervous to send him off, we spent a few days there, to calm my nerves, not his.
My spring break is at the same time as yours. I am hoping for signs of spring by then here in Michigan! Hopefully you will get to see more spring on your travels--besides all the college stuff. And yes, treasure the times in the car; perfect places for conversations.
