Still Writing

I haven't posted in days and days. I've been writing. Boy, have I been writing. None of it was really appropriate for a post. Most of it was angry whiny words that needed to be barfed up on the paper. I composed several potential posts in my head but didn't write them. I decided it was okay not to. Not yet. I took a lot of pictures of things I wanted to remember so when I am ready to write about them, if I write about them, I will be able to conjure up a feeling. I suppose I could have viewed this as a bout of writer's block but that isn't how it felt. It just felt like life happening. I was writing but not in a writer's notebook. I was journaling. Journaling served a different function than a writer's notebook. When I looked back at my writing over the last few months, I noticed that I threw all my energy into posting and not much into journaling. For me, journaling helped me wade through all the junk. My writer's notebook served as a place for ideas. I figured out I need both.

This is a tiny writer's notebook I received from my colleague, Fran.
Each page is only big enough for a word or two. It came
with the word "trust" printed on the first page.

  1. Good to hear from you! I missed reading you. I understand about filtering your writing--sometimes the feelings you need to get out still need to stay private. I have a few of those myself.

  3. So interesting - I have felt the same way lately, I have much to write but not to post. But instead of writing those things on paper, I have holed them up inside and it has been stiffling. Today I will get out a notebook and vent. Love the tiny notebook.

  4. Your reflection is about an interesting topic - choosing. Choosing to use journaling or writing in a notebook. Choosing which potential post turns into a real post. What I like best is that you chose it was life happening not a writer's block that you experienced.

  8. I completely get what you are saying. I have not been posting OR writing. I am going to take a note from your book and at least journal when I can't bring myself to post. Glad to read your words again.

  9. I complete relate to the phrase "barfed up on the paper." The imagery of that is so real for any writer. I love that you blog and journal. What a great way to record all your thoughts...public and private.

  10. You have described a feeling well - especially the "barfed up on paper" bit - raw for sure! I'm glad you are back too.

  11. It's been awhile -- and yes, you were dearly missed! Glad to see you back writing and sharing. Journaling is as important too -- sometimes more raw, unpolished, and emotional. I agree that both a writer's notebook and a journal are necessary.

The teeny tiny notebook is powerful -- if you can find it deep down in the bottom of your purse! :)

Glad to hear your voice again. Hope all that "life happening" has put you in a good place.

  13. I am glad you posted this. There were times when I wrote pieces for the challenge and then realized they were too personal and withheld them. Yet, as you noted, that type of writing is an important process for you to understand what you are feeling.

  14. Glad you're still writing! All kinds of writing is good for you! Taking pictures of things when you don't feel like writing about them at the time is a great idea!
